Initial Reflection and Introduction

Hello! My name is Alex Coffey. I am looking forward to this course. I use technology often in my artistic practice and am always looking for ways to engage people with interactivity. I’m particularly interested in how I can incorporate technology into my future teaching practice. I am coming into this course with some reservations about the use of AI in the classroom but am interested in learning more about that topic.

As a self-introduction, outside of this program I’m a practicing visual artist working in sound art, photogrammetry, and animation. I do environmental-based work and am always learning how to inform the public about these issues and inspire change. I have coding experience and spend my free time modding video games. I also love paleontology and used to work as a science educator with the Royal Tyrrell. I love teaching art and science and have made a few programs to engage learners in the past. I’m also an amateur musician; I sing and am learning the guitar and mandolin (fun fact: when I was a preteen, I spent some time singing with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra)!
